IPL 2024, CSK vs LSG: Stoinis becomes 3rd Lucknow batter to score IPL hundred as promotion works

Marcus Stoinis became the third LSG batter to score a hundred in the IPL as the promotion worked for Lucknow during the clash against CSK at the Chepauk stadium in Lucknow. Stoinis came in to bat at No.3 for LSG as they were in trouble early in the innings while chasing 211 runs to win and complete a double over CSK.

Earlier in the match, CSK had posted a mammoth total of 210 on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten 108 and a 27-ball 60 from Shivam Dube. LSG found themselves in a big spot of bother as Quinton de Kock would go for a duck as chopped a delivery from Deepak Chahar right on to the stumps. Stoinis was sent in with the license to get quick runs and he put on 33 runs with skipper KL Rahul. However, Rahul, who had scored 82 in the last game, would hit one straight to his counterpart Ruturaj off the bowling of Mustafizur Rahman.

Stoinis would get going with a couple of boundaries off Deepak Chahar in the 3rd over of the innings and would do the same to Shardul Thakur in the final over of powerplay. The Aussie all-rounder would get a six off Ravindra Jadeja’s first over before taking apart Moeen Ali in the following one.

Stoinis brought up his fifty in 33 balls and had to switch gears after Devdutt Padikkal struggled in the middle and scored 13 off 19 balls. He would get a boundary soon after the fall of the wicket and continued to accelerate by targeting Tushar Deshpande.

He would get a six and a boundary off Deshpande in the 13th over as he found the perfect partner in Nicholas Pooran. Stoinis entered the 80s with a six off Mustafizur as the game was in the balance.

Pooran would relieve the pressure off Stoinis a bit as he took Shardul Thakur to the cleaners, but the wicket of the West Indies star put the onus back on Stoinis. A boundary off Pathirana got the Aussies all-rounder into the 90s. A six off Mustafizur helped him get to 98 and a double would get him to the landmark.

Stoinis got to his hundred in 56 balls and his innings consisted of 9 boundaries and 5 sixes.

Stoinis joins KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock

KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock were the previous LSG batters to have scored hundreds in the IPL. Rahul had scored two against MI during the 2022 season and De Kock hit 140 against KKR in the same campaign.
