IPL 2024: Not a massive fan – David Miller in favour of scrapping Impact Player rule

GT’s David Miller said that the much-talked-about Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL) should be scrapped. The southpaw said that rule has taken out the roles of quality all-rounders. Earlier, MI skipper Rohit Sharma, in an interview on ‘Club Prairie Fire’ podcast, explained that the quality of cricket is being compromised to cater to the needs of the audience.

The 34-year-old Miller said that the IPL should follow the rules of international cricket. “Everyone has got their opinions about it but for me I am not a massive fan of the rule. The game of cricket has 11 players and it would be nice to stick to that.

“Rohit said that international cricket is not like that and I feel it’s better to keep it the same as international cricket,” Miller told in a press conference before the game between GT and DC on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

“It’s creating 6 bowlers and 8 batters, taking all-rounders out of contention. At the end of the rule is there, so we have to play according to the rule,” Miller added.

‘Need a little bit more fight’

The Titans beat PBKS by 3 wickets in their previous game in Mullanpur, but they need to keep up their momentum to break into the top 4. Miller said that GT need to put in more fight to climb the ladder.

“As a team there have been some close games that we won and also one or two close games that we lost. I think it’s just about getting back to basics, feeding off each other, getting good partnerships. We just need a little bit more fight.

“We win the next few games and we are really in the mix, so it’s very important,” Miller added.

The last time GT faced DC, Shubman Gill and Co. were bowled out for 89. The Capitals chased down the target in 8.5 overs and recorded their biggest IPL win in terms of balls remaining.
